No one is quite sure how to categorize the Q30, and I think that this may cause other car makers to build cars to compete against the Q30. You never want another company to have a product that you just don't.

Do you guys think that we will see new vehicles to compete in this segment in the near future?

It's possible but so far there's nothing I know of that will compete with it. Looks like we might have to wait for some of the main auto shows to happen so we can get a better idea of what the future is like for the rest of the industry.

plus Infiniti has a small market share. unless the Q30 becomes their top seller it wont attract much attention.
thats easy to say now.
the Q30 might be totally new to the market and not something there's a demand for but sometimes companies need to make a product and make people like it or just hope they do. I bet the Q30 will do well enough with sales.

If other companies are waiting to see how the Q30 does before they decide whether or not to try to compete in this new segment, they would still have years of development before they brought their rival vehicles to market. The wait, plus development would make them lag behind Infiniti. On the other hand, maybe the Q30 won't be a hit and then the other car companies would be smart not to have wasted money competing in a segment that no one is shopping in.

exactly, if any rivals are to come out, they're current under development. sometimes not everyone can play catch up, so anyone building a rival to the Q30 when it comes out will be building something to be relevant for when it comes out

I would say other companies have some of the starts of ideas for cars to compete against the Q30 so that if the car is successful they won't be starting from square one in trying to put a car into production. Of course, this beginning stage of car design won't go too far because the company doesn't want to invest too much money until it knows for sure that it is going to make the vehicle.

Do we know what Infiniti is aiming for for Q30 sales?

I don't know what you guys think the Q30 is going to be but vehicles like it already exist.

The Mercedes A class it shares a platform and chassis with is

Length 4,292 mm
Width 1,780 mm
Height 1,433 mm

While the VW Golf is

Length (mm) 4,201
Width (mm) 1,786
Height (mm) 1,481

And theres more out there than the golf. I think the better question is what took infiniti so long to get their ass into a game thats been raging for 20 years...

I guess the biggest change that the Q30 brings is its styling. I don't think that there is another vehicle of its size that has the modern and edgy styling that the Q30 does. It is a much younger looking vehicle.

Infiniti claims that the Q30 combines aspects of a sedan, hatchback and CUV. Not sure if any other vehicle claims to do quite the same thing even if they are similar in size.

Infiniti can claim whatever they want. Sedan and hatchback are mutually exclusive applications. Right there should be your first clue they are in full on marketing mode...

Whats different about these vehicles... What does infiniti bring to the table none of them do.. oh swoopy lines... OK... wake me up when they've finished reinventing the wheel....

that is true. most will just call it a hatchback or crossover SUV

I think the adjustable height does lend to the confusino of the Q30 in what it really is. It's a nice looking car though. And I think that what it is shouldn't be that big of a deal. It just needs to be a good car. And it needs to be affordable.
