Time-saving tips, products and advice to get your ride clean and shiny in a jiff.
Spring is in the air, and car-care season is upon us. With the winter gone away for another year, the time is right to treat your ride to some much-needed TLC, leaving its cabin clean and detailed, and its paint shiny, lustrous and protected.
Cleaning and caring for the look of your ride, inside and out, is easy and trouble-free, and more so if you’ve got the right products and equipment for the job. Best of all, taking care of your ride’s appearance is a great way to ensure it looks good for the long haul and can improve resale value, too.
Below, we’ll look at seven items that will make your springtime car care ritual even easier, as well as some tips and hacks that’ll save you time and money, basically making you a genius.
Even using a DA polisher which theoretically can't cause damage - can do a lot of damage. Without the proper prep of the surface via clay bar, pad seasoning, etc, you can add a world of new scratches into your paint very quickly. Wouldn't recommend that as an essential. Rather a glaze that will "cover" the scratches giving the illusion of smooth paint.
The biggest cheat code is to find a good detailer and have them do it. I rather not buy a ton of product I wont be using often that will last me years, on top of that im not as detail oriented as the pros. Better of sending it to them. Its quite inexpensive.
Pretty much, and they know the solutions to cater to your budget and know what they're doing. The last thing you want is to attempt something you don't have much experience with and do more damage than good.
That's pretty much me in a nutshell, just bring it to my buddy who can detail the car for a very affordable price. Just do it once a year after the winter season and the car is golden. Of course I do the occasional dusting too, but nothing major.
I typically like to get real handsy with mine, it gives me a sense of relaxation. But I'm extremely picky and meticulous and hate other people touching my cars haha. Just one of those things I guess and it really isn't for everyone. Everyone has their preferences and just the time of day that can escape you
Fact is if all you did is wash the car every week or two, wax every quarter, and clay bar every six months you would do more than most people do and you car will look better than 90% of cars on the road at the moment.
Personally, two buckets (one for clean, one for dirty water), couple of decent sponges or a decent mit.
...some decent shampoo (personally I like Meguiars - but that's just me) like this
A clay bar if you've got the patience and the time link
Oh, and a half decent car wax. No need to break the bank - Collinite 476 for about £25 quid is (in my humble opinion) one of the best on the market. Easy wax-on-wax-off, and I'd do the Pepsi challenge on shine with any other wax on the market. Link here.
Wax is the big thing as well. People tend to think carnauba wax is a long term solution when it's really not.. it's more of a show prep if anything that lasts all of 2-3 washes.
But proper washing procedure and protection is key to keeping it looking sharp.
