do you know what the QX30 will be like and if it will share a platform with a Mercedes?
or did they stop the Infiniti and Mercedes relation at the Q50 and Q30 (i think?) ?

I am pretty sure it will share a platform with Mercedes. Infiniti is going to build quite a few cars using that platform (4?) I am anticipating that the QX30 and the Q30 will be similar in size, with the QX30 sitting a bit higher and looking more like a CUV, whereas the Q30 will sit lower and look more like a hatchback/car.

here we go again....

The QX30 will share architecture with the Q30. So I've come to the conclusion that the Q30 is going to be A class sized and that the QX30 is going to be GLA sized...

A Class


GLA



I believe Q30 and QX30 are going to share a similar relationship, similar dimensions, just one is hatchy one is CUV-ey. All 4 will be the same car underneath and under hood.

Yup, this should clear up any confusion.
It's quite simple actually, and anyone thinking Infiniti/Nissan is stupid, just look at what they have created in the past, and are currently!

Even if they grow the QX50 it still competes with the same range of buyers.

The pricing will all overlap.

3 CUVs? Many would say the QX70 is a CUV as well.

yes well GLA and CLA both compete at the same price point, but they serve different needs and wants.

most makers stagger their pricing so that models do in fact overlap, its a form of upselling. Imagine you can get yourself into a Q30 for ~$40K loaded, yet you can also get yourself into a scarcely optioned QX50 at that price. For a few thousand more you can have everything you want in the larger car. As the models get more expensive the maker makes a bigger margin. When you average out the payments in a lease or finance scenario the increase of a few thousand from Q30 to QX50 works out to peanuts per month.

Again its all about needs and wants. Just because you can get yourself into a QX50 at the price point you want doesnt mean it will serve your needs.

Same with Q30, at its expected $30k MSRP you could also get yourself into a 370Z, but does the 370 meet your needs?

In a way they target similar buyers, how I see it, the QX30 will be the more practical vehicle for some people, one big reason being space.
So a growing family will probably go for the QX30, meanwhile someone without kids that just needs it for them self and significant other might want the Q30

yeah it just falls on to the demand for space. for those who require a quick city comutter would go for the Q30 as for the Qx30 it would suit a new family.

well hold on before we start saying things like that I think we should have a look at the relationship between the A-class and the GLA. As mentioned earlier in the thread I am expecting Q30 to be like the A-class and the QX30 to be like the GLA.

GLA Trunk Capacity: 421 L
A Trunk Capacity: 341 L

thats an 80 L difference or 2.8 cubic feet. Not particularly massive practicality gains..

maybe Q30 will be more performance oriented than QX30...

quick and affordable
buying german is always a gamble, at least with Nissan/Infiniti, your odds of getting a reliable vehicle is increased greatly

Buying new cars is a risk itself you never really know till your in too deep and find out. Even with japanese imports these days it a hit or miss. Just like mama always said... "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get."

Yeah just about any new car can be hit by the new car curse.
Nissan got it worse with the new Pathfinder and the CVT transmission in it.

The way the Q30 is apparently targeted its meant for the "youth"

So is the QX30 and QX50 meant for older folks? :p

I think that the Q30 is meant for "youth" as in young couples or singles who don't yet have a family. Youth that are a bit more concerned with style than cargo space or practicality.

The QX30 and QX50 are more for families. Easier access to the back seat to get kids in and out. More of a soccer mom feel.

Just my 2 cents.
