Q30 Production

So we know the Q30 will be based on the Mercedes CLA/GLA platform and at least share engines with baby Benzs. With that in mind its safe to assume the Q30 will be built alongside the CLA/GLA at the joint Mercedes-Nissan facility in Mexico.

The reason i bring this up is because Ford ran into some major quality control issues at its Mexican facility when spooling up for the launch of the Lincoln MKZ. Considering this facility is still unproven and the Q30 is very important to Infiniti penetrating new segments, should we be worried about any delays or quality control issues coming from the Mexican production plant?

Can anyone chip in any insight here? Not really interested in picking up the Q30 if she will fall apart on me like a pinata...

Its possible but realistically Mercedes would just sell Infiniti the frame and have Infiniti put the car together.

There are production costs to making the interior, and sheet metal that I would assume Infiniti would be responsible for. I would think they would want to keep it within Infiniti.
with how bad the new pathfinder and JX are, i would be a bit concerned but with Benz being involved, who knows how this will go. I'm still going to buy it, being an early adopter you almost always have to deal with going back and forth to the dealership with problems

Its a joint facility, Q30s will be rolling off the line next to CLAs. Its funny your comment about keeping it within Infiniti, I dont see that so much the case anymore. Manufacturing is not getting any cheaper and were seeing lots of consolidation of production facilities and modular vehicles across competing brands.

Until 3D printing goes mainstream were going to see lots more of these low-cost sharing ventures, quality should be very concerned.

low-cost sharing ventures are the way to go with these mainstream vehicles that aren't really about the true enthusiast, because at the end of the day the majority of people owning these cars won't care, people at the top owning the IPL Q30 and those owning the CLA AMG might not be all that happy....but they'll live with it.
