Hi, I'm new to the forum and it's obvious that many of you know your stuff. Can anyone please confirm whether the Q30 and QX30 headlights are the same fit. I have a 2016 Q30 premium, but the brow part of the near side drl is permanently Amber. Whilst I appreciate that this is not an MOT failure and as a driver I'll never see it, the fact that it is faulty annoys me a bit, so I'm now in the process of trying to source a replacement full led headlight unit Any help or information would be readily and gratefully received.

Hi, Kev.
I would guess the Q30 and QX30 headlamps would be identical as the vehicles were not differentiated in the USA, just all QX30. There is a Valeo sticker on the headlamp body which will need to be identically the same as your replacement.
My own take on this is your unit may be recoverable, the most likely culprit may be ingress of water corrosion into plugs and modules which has then caused your issue.
A second hand replacement should be just plug and play and to keep them functioning I would really recommend you swamp spray your headlamp heatsinks and control modules with some dispersant spray quite often as this stops the corrosion getting hold in my opinion.

Good luck on the search 🖐 - Cornish.

Thanks Cornish. I'll definitely give that a go. I've already sprayed the bottom part of the light, through the wheel arch, but hadn't realised that there was another visible part from the bonnet side.
With my lights being the adaptive led's, if I were to buy a European light, would that self adjust to UK spec, or is my only option, should the fix not work, to buy a,UK variant ?.
Thanks for your advice and help so far

I've sprayed all the heatsinks now, so will wait a few hours to see the outcome

Hi Kev, the light units are designated LHD and RHD by valeo and there is a setting in the car menu for Left or Right hand traffic for the adaptive lighting for the auto hi/low beam also.
This is useful for Europe driving as the windscreen camera switches sides I think to monitor L or R traffic. I think we need beam covers because my light cut-off lines are definetly for a RHD model.
Doing a bit of research the car does a motorway mode which I think changes the light output and a RHD lamp would be best for this function. It's explained in the owner operators manual for info.
Another member here had issues with the LED lights and did a lot of research and also managed to fix their lamp unit. I would post on that thread maybe also because they have experienced repairing a lamp unit.. 🖐 second hand or new are just plug and play, we have L-R and U-D Allen screws on the lamp housing for aiming if the replacement is misaligned etc.

Thanks Cornish, some good information there. A few months ago, I replaced the o/s headlight as the whole drl was running as an Amber colour, although this did not affect the indicator which functioned as normal. The plug section must have been OK as the replacement unit lit up correctly without any fault. With the nearside now appearing to fail on the brow part of the drl, I have now soaked the heatsinks in wd40 from underneath and on top, and will hope for the best, to at least stop it getting worse. The other issue is that n/s led units in UK spec, are really thin on the ground unless I go brand new ( circa £1000 + ). O/s lights are more readily available for some reason which is why I asked the question regarding definitively having to buy UK and not Euro spec replacements. Thanks again for your help and input

Just a little query. The headlight units are defined as lhd/rhd, and you mentioned that I might need lens adjusters if I bought a unit from a left hand drive car. My uneducated question is..where would the adjustment go on the lens, as it us a clear lens as it stands ?.

The location depends on where the light out out is required to be modified. Reflector, projector and LED will have different lighting characteristics.

Pictures some it up easier... 🤗

Images show left and right headlamps.
Best option, adjust in the dark on a wall and make sure the beam on the left is not higher than on the right and if you have a peak on the right side of the left headlamp use a euro beam bender to modify the light pattern. This is an MOT failure...

I am unsure what type of headlight you have.
As the notes on the pictures have said, this is part of the MOT and it is a safety issue so the authorities take this seriously.

Hope this helps 👋. Cornish.

Thanks Mr Cornish. Very helpful. I have full led headlights, but finding a full UK spec near side one is proving to be really difficult, unless I pay for a brand new one at circa £1300..not. Can get lhd spec no problem at a reasonable price, but not the one I actually need. The wait continues.
