No Q30 for North America?

Infiniti has decided that for the North American market there will be no distinction between the Q30 and the QX30. They will both share the QX30 name.

The original plan from Infiniti was to sell FWD models branded Q30, with the addition of AWD making it a QX30. The model differences will remain in North America, however without the dual badges.

The thinking being that the car will have more chance of success if all derivatives are marketed as compact crossovers vs hatchbacks in North America. The luxury hatch market in NA is virtually non-existent.

From Car and Driver:

Outside of the naming, the Q30/QX30 story hasn’t changed. There still will be front-wheel-drive entry-level and sport-oriented models, as well as a range-topping all-wheel-drive version pegged as a sort-of crossover. The only difference is that the first two versions now carry the same “QX30″ moniker as the all-wheel-drive model.
Look for all QX30 derivatives to hit stores mid-2016 with a $30,000 entry level price tag.

Ohhh, so this was the reason. Crossover sales are booming recently and everyone wants to get their hands on one. Makes sense that Inifiniti will want to capitalize on the compact crossover trend. Doesn't a vehicle need to meed a set of standard to be classified as a compact crossover?

That's it and they're getting in on the action at the right time, some brand still have yet to get where Infiniti is right now. I know Lexus is one of them.
I don't think that Lexus is wishing they were Infiniti's position.

Never said they were.
Lexus doesn't have any crossovers? Isn't that what the NX is?

Yea the NX and the RX are both crossovers. They don't have a full size SUV, but i think that is on their to do list.
The Lexus LX is what I think they'll change for that purpose, but they've been holding on to it for a long time now, might be because of sales overseas.
So the Q30 won't have any competition from the Lexus LX?

I had read about this before. Basically they decided to go with the RC instead of the the full size SUV. They later expressed some possible regret over the situation, but they are going with it, and they still have the LX on the list of things to do.
I didn't know about that, post a link to where you read that

For a smaller SUV in a more mainstream segment I can see that being the case, not the LX of all things.
So we could be seeing a 3 row CUV from Lexus soon. Lexus seems to be going for the mass market now with the Q30 and potentially another CUV.
Can't blame Lexus though, hard to see 10 years into the future.
Well they do have the new RX which fills that need for those that really want a 3-row Lexus and it does the job well.
Vehicle classifications

What Is a CUV?

I'll try and answer that myself.:-

a) Crossover Utility Vehicle?
or
b) Compact Utility Vehicle?

I have also seen some new vehicles classed as Compact Crossovers (CC). Is this also to be a new classification? :|

I just lump them all together since they're generally the same to me. I only know the difference between a cuv and an suv, crossovers/compacts uses a car's platform and SUVs are supposed to use the chassis of a truck.

Interesting enough, I was comparing the interior trim between the UK and NA QX30 and NA gets an extra color option, the gallery white.
I'm starting to wonder if we'll see the QX30 in NA this year. I haven't heard anything new about its availability yet and the vehicle has been out in Europe for a while.
The QX30 is expected to hit dealerships in mid-2016 so we should hear more soon.

One thing I've noticed on the NA Infiniti site is how they label some performance features like dual clutch transmission as "available". Does that mean it won't come as standard?
