Infiniti Q30 renamed QX30 for North America

Instead of selling the Q30 hatchback and QX30 crossover as two separate models, Infiniti will will sell them both under the QX30 badge only in North America. So NA will have three versions of the 2017 Infiniti QX30: two front wheel drive to match the 2 Q30 models and one all wheel drive model to match the global QX30.

Here's a simple break down.

North America Model / Europe Model
QX30 FWD = Q30
QX30S FWD = Q30 Sport
QX30 AWD = Global QX30

All three models are set to go on sale in the U.S. in mid-2016 but I'm not sure about the Canadian release date.

OK..., this seems odd to me considering how long its been two separate names, but it makes sense. Two names was confusing.
Wasn't all that confusing, Q30 was FWD and QX30 was AWD. I feel like this NA specific naming change is more confusing that what it was originally.
What's odd is that on the U.S. site, Infiniti has an X version of the Q50 and Q60. If people aren't confused by those two models then why would they be confused by the Q30? Feel like there's something else that's the cause but we just don't know what that is.

I don't understand how they would be confused, it's not hard to see the trend with the naming system 'Q__' for coupes, sedans and hatches, and 'QX__' for SUV's and Crossovers.

Only confusion I can see is visually between two models that come close to eachother like the q30 and qx30 does, bu that won't last too long.
Its not the name so much as the fact that the two vehicles don't really differ that much at all.
So it seems like this was a move made by U.S. dealers because their customers aren't very receptive towards hatchbacks, not because of confusion.
Randy Parker, vice president for Infiniti Americas said that by using the crossover label "the QX30 will have a potential for bigger sales volumes."
Hmm... it is basically that it doesn't matter so much what the vehicle actually is, it is more important how it is classified. It's stupid, but I guess it's true.
Well part of it is what the vehicle actually is because what ever segment its said to be part of, it has to compete best in that segment.
