Infiniti is developing a new vehicle architecture with Mercedes-Benz that will eventually underpin four new models. The news was revealed by the head of Infiniti Johan de Nysschen at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this week.

Not many other details were given, but De Nysschen did confirm that one of the vehicles to be built on the new platform would be a crossover. One thing you can count on it these models being appropriate for both the American and the Chinese market. Infiniti expects China to be its largest market by the end of the decade.

A crossover is a good idea, that's one thing both brands are missing out on. But how big of a crossover do you think it will be and what can it currently compete with?

Pricing is another thing im curious about, could this be another low-to-mid $30k infiniti/mercedes?

Won't this crossover just be the redesign of a vehicle that already exists? I'm thinking that the QX50 could run on this architecture and it is in bad need of an update. An updated QX50 would compete with the new Porsche Macan, the upcoming BMW X4, the upcoming Audi Q3. The segment is really heating up...

After seeing the Q50 Eau Rouge, It's even more possible for them to make an SUV with the kind of performance needed to rival a Porsche Macan.
Hopefully they try to be like the germans and make a performance model of just about every car they sell.

this is OLD news. The platform they agreed to develop is already under the Q30 concept, and in production for the GLA/CLA from Mercedes...

Infinti will also use it for QX30 and Q40...

Q40 is definitely what they need. The Q50 is great but a compact luxury sedan that sits below the Q50 will be a great high 20k's or even low 30k's priced vehicle to start.
