Default No Q30 for North America?

Infiniti has decided that for the North American market there will be no distinction between the Q30 and the QX30. They will both share the QX30 name.

The original plan from Infiniti was to sell FWD models branded Q30, with the addition of AWD making it a QX30. The model differences will remain in North America, however without the dual badges.

The thinking being that the car will have more chance of success if all derivatives are marketed as compact crossovers vs hatchbacks in North America. The luxury hatch market in NA is virtually non-existent.

From Car and Driver:

Quote:
Outside of the naming, the Q30/QX30 story hasn’t changed. There still will be front-wheel-drive entry-level and sport-oriented models, as well as a range-topping all-wheel-drive version pegged as a sort-of crossover. The only difference is that the first two versions now carry the same “QX30″ moniker as the all-wheel-drive model.
Look for all QX30 derivatives to hit stores mid-2016 with a $30,000 entry level price tag.

Ohhh, so this was the reason. Crossover sales are booming recently and everyone wants to get their hands on one. Makes sense that Inifiniti will want to capitalize on the compact crossover trend. Doesn't a vehicle need to meed a set of standard to be classified as a compact crossover?

That's it and they're getting in on the action at the right time, some brand still have yet to get where Infiniti is right now. I know Lexus is one of them.

I don't think that Lexus is wishing they were Infiniti's position.

Lexus doesn't have any crossovers? Isn't that what the NX is?

The Lexus LX is what I think they'll change for that purpose, but they've been holding on to it for a long time now, might be because of sales overseas.

So the Q30 won't have any competition from the Lexus LX?

I had read about this before. Basically they decided to go with the RC instead of the the full size SUV. They later expressed some possible regret over the situation, but they are going with it, and they still have the LX on the list of things to do.
