Here is another photo of the upcoming Infiniti Q30. The Q30 looks like it is sitting a bit closer to the ground than when we've seen previously. Looks great, and extremely close to the concept. I'm excited about it.
Set to be produced at Nissan’s Sunderland factory, where the QX30 crossover will also be manufactured, the car will be available with a 2.2-liter Mercedes-Benz-sourced diesel engine, delivering 170 PS (125 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). It will be mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed automatic transmission.
Infiniti drops new image of production Q30
Infiniti has released an image of the Q30 prototype and also announced when the production Q30 will be revealed. The Infiniti Q30 hatchback is going to be revealed in Frankfurt in September.
It appears that the Q30 prototype is currently undergoing final testing and validation ahead of its market launch at the end of this year.
We still do not know what will power the Q30 hatchback. Likely it will get an assortment of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines from Nissan and Mercedes-Benz. Higher end variants will be offered with a seven-speed automatic gearbox and a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system borrowed from the three-pointed star company.
With the start of Infiniti Q30 production approaching, Nissan is bolstering its work force at its Sunderland, UK factory. Nissan is adding 300 jobs to its Sunderland factory in advance of the start of Q30 (and later QX30) production.
Nissan says that the 300 new recruits are needed to "join the company ahead of the start of production of the Q30 later this year."
Nissan has made a heavy investment into the Sunderland plant. The investment has increased the size of the plant by 25,000 feet squared. That new space encompasses a new body shop, and an updated trim and chassis assembly line.
The Q30 will be the first Infiniti vehicle built in Europe. Being a global model, the Q30 will then be shipped to markets worldwide, including the USA and China. The QX30 will also be built at Sunderland shortly after the Q30 begins production. The QX30 is a compact crossover, and is the sibling of the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class.

"We would take the lead on developing any compact car. It is our platform," said Zetsche.
Infiniti boss Andy Palmer also suggested in an interview at Frankfurt that further Infiniti models might be based on the MFA, understood to refer to a soft-roader based on the jacked-up GLA version of the A-class.
However, Zetsche cautioned that the wide-ranging cooperation deal with Renault-Nissan and Infiniti had its practical limits.
"Too many projects could be a worry for management," he said.
Infiniti just laid out their plans for the 2016 Model Year which sees the Q30 join ranks.
Replacing the last gen G37-rebadged-Q40 will be a new 2.0T option for the Q50. Infiniti expects the new engine and the new Q30 to act as their new entry level offers. U.S. sales of the Q30 are expected to begin in late spring or early summer 2016.
Joining the Q30 as all new will be the Q60 coupe which Infiniti showed us at the Detroit Auto Show back in January. Expect to see the coupe available with a 3.0L TT V6 and the above mentioned 2.0T. Unclear if they will still offer the NA V6.
The 2.0T on offer in Q30, Q50 and Q60 is the same mill in the Mercedes CLA/GLA tandem. Infiniti will detail specs later on in the year, but considering they share an assembly line in Tennessee I wouldn't expect much difference from the 211 hp and 258 ft-lb figures it makes in the European Q50.
Rounding out the details, a revised QX50 is expected in September 2015, in October the QX80 Signature Edition will hit stores and in November the Q70 will gain a Premium Edition.
